چکیده

A strong convective storm is a disastrous weather system with small spatio-temporal scale. It often occurs suddenly and can cause huge disasters. Thus, it necessary to improve the forecast accuracy of storms. Overshooting cloud top (OT) product updrafts in storms, which penetrate tropopause enter lower stratosphere. OT closely related severe influence water vapor transport material exchange between troposphere Therefore, timely detection help forecasting. In this study, we develop new objective algorithm based on geostationary satellite observations from 2006 2017. The identifying verified by manually comparing radar echo images MODIS 250 m. Then, statistically analyzed long time series. found that events are mainly concentrated equatorial low latitude regions, higher frequency summer. There obvious differences land sea. Additionally, dataset also reveals close connection seasonal shift average precipitation distribution around globe. This study provides scientific basis for determining geographical characteristics explores application operational weather. We hope benefit monitoring

Characterizing tropical overshooting deep convection from joint analysis of CloudSat and geostationary satellite observations

[1] Tropical overshooting deep convection (ODC) plays an important role in affecting the heat and constituent budgets of the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere. This study investigates the properties and behaviors of such intense deep convection using a combination of CloudSat observations and geostationary satellite data. Our study approaches the subject from two unique perspectives: fir...

Linear trends in cloud top height from passive observations in the oxygen A-band

Measurements by the hyperspectral spectrometers GOME, SCIAMACHY and GOME-2 are used to determine the rate of linear change (and trends) in cloud top height (CTH) in the period between June 1996 and May 2012. The retrievals are obtained from Top-OfAtmosphere (TOA) backscattered solar light in the oxygen A-band using the Semi-Analytical CloUd Retrieval Algorithm SACURA. The physical framework rel...

Ammonia observations of the nearby molecular cloud MBM 12

We present NH3(1,1) and (2,2) observations of MBM 12, the closest known molecular cloud (65 pc distance), aimed to find evidence for on-going star formation processes. No local temperature (with a Trot upper limit of 12 K) nor linewidth enhancement is found, which suggests that the area of the cloud we mapped (∼ 15 size) is not currently forming stars. Therefore, this close “starless” molecular...

Formation of the Enhanced-V Infrared Cloud-Top Feature from High-Resolution Three-Dimensional Radar Observations

The responsible mechanism for the formation of the enhanced-V infrared cloud-top feature observed above tropopause-penetrating thunderstorms is not well understood. A new method for the combination of volumetric radar reflectivity from individual radars into three-dimensional composites with high vertical resolution (1 km) is introduced and used to test various formation mechanisms proposed in ...

Global Distribution of Cloud Top Height as Retrieved from SCIAMACHY Onboard ENVISAT Spaceborne Observations

The spatial and temporal analysis of the SCanning Imaging Absorption SpectroMeter for Atmospheric CHartographY (SCIAMACHY) onboard ENVISAT global cloud top height data for 2003–2006 is presented. The cloud top height is derived using a semi-analytical cloud top height retrieval algorithm based on an asymptotic solution of the radiative transfer equation in the oxygen A-band. The analysis is val...
